| Those that have
been to other Wellington Sevens will agree that it just seems
to get better every year and this year it scaled another level
with the cream on top being the great victory by the New Zealand
team over a very tenacious and talented side from Argentine.
But back to the action in the stands. Great creativity in
the uniforms on display - the ChickenMen winning my vote for
best dressed in Aisle 31 rows AA to NN. And thanks guys for
feathering all of us during the two days although bringing
six pillow in on day two did mean nearly everyone in the ground
ended up with a feather on them! Awesome to see the return
of Austin Powers after an absence last year, the Colonel was
in fine form but never seemed to leave the Red Zone - maybe
the chickens were worried he might bring his secret herbs
and spices...
Kiss were magnificent, less Elvises (Elvi?) than previous
years but we did have some at least, doctors, nurses and tennis
players everywhere (I didn't realise John McEnroe had such
a keen interest in Rugby), Jon and Ponch (CHIPS) were on patrol,
the Hulkamania and NYPD crew were all hilarious and the Freds,
Barneys, Wilmas and Bettys found Bedrock corner even though
it moved from last year. The Smurfs were back, Mexicans for
Africa, Bill Clinton, cowgirls, cowboys, pink ladies and storm
troopers (but no Darth?). Any stag parties this year?
And how was the entertainment? - the Blues Brothers, Austin
P, the Groovy Grannies, the list goes on. And just to polish
it off a nice bunch of sparklers and sky rockets for all to
see above the Stadium following the final whistle PLUS the
Chinese New Year fireworks on the harbour. |

| Best supporter - Muff, also known as Muffalina
and Liz took away the replica Sevens jersey
Facepainting - Scottie and Alex for getting the ball rolling
won hats, various others handed out for their works of art
Pick the Score - Cath with (31-10) narrowly edged out Shane
(28-7) to win the replica polo shirt
Pool comp - can't remember, too long ago
AND just in case you were winning New Zealand beat Argentina
31-7 in the final and took maximum points in the IRB World
Sevens Series. A special mention to the Kenyans for being
crowd favourites with their fancy footwork both on and off
the field. Nice work boys.
Bookings being taken for 2006!! Climb onboard.
See you on the Lions Tour. May 2005. |
