Highlanders do the job against the Hurricanes.

It does not matter how, just how many. This was not one of the prettiest games out but a win is a win and the Highlanders have the points in the bank.

Enough of the chiches....... The Highlanders beat the Hurricanes 26-14 at Carisbrook, Dunedin on April 24 to keep their faint semi-final chances alive for the 2004 season.

This was local legend's, Tony Brown, final game at the 'Brook and he was delighted with the victory in a hard fought match. A record crowd for the season of 17,500 turned up for the match with many coming from South Otago where Brownie's roots are. Born in a coal mining town - Kaitangata, one hour south of Dunedin, Brown has always been a crowd favourite and probably should have played more for the All Blacks. Brown is off to Japan with a professional contract for a few years worth mega $$$$$$s.

The Bottom Bus crew were in fine form and enjoyed the romp on the ground afterwards with - pics under the post, meeting the players (even a hug from Highlanders' captain Anton Oliver!) and a bit of banner surfing!

Footnote
The Highlanders beat the NSW Waratahs 29-28 in Sydney on Saturday 1 May (their first ever win in Sydney) and now can make the semi-finals if they beat the Blues in Auckland on May 8. (and a few other results go their way) This was the best win of the season for the Highlanders who were reduced to 14 men after Filipo Levi got sent off for a bit of fisty-cuffs with mongel Waratah Justin Harrison. Go you good things!!

Despite the loss, town and in particular the Gardies was going off after the match. A few sore heads returning to Queenstown the next day or for those continuing on Bottom Bus on the next few days.

And don't forget the New Zealand Backpackers Festival - June 9 to 12, 2004 featuring the England v All Blacks Rugby International in Dunedin.
