The Bottom Bus crew loaded up for another big game in Invercargill with
the Highlanders taking on the Reds in the opening Super 12 game of the
2004 competition.

On a balmy, starry evening in the deep south, OK it was cold and pissed
with rain, the Highlanders put the Reds to the sword winning 39-8.

nice paint job
It certainly was not familiar conditions for the Queenslanders, with
freezing icy conditions more reminiscent of winter than what is supposed
to be the middle of summer in New Zealand. However spirits on the banks
were high in the Bottom Bus camp braving the southerly storm and cheering
on the home team to a great victory. Big effort team - like your style.

Prize winners

Lisa Jordan won the Speights Prize pack for pick-the-score which included a lovely 'yard' of Speights Ale at the aftermatch at the Globe Hotel in Riverton. Rebecca won the first try scorer and a AJ Hackett prize pack whilst the AJ Hackett Bungy jump went to Heather with a perfect 10!

Big lock Filipo Levi scored the first try and added one more to be one of the star performers for the Highlanders.

The celebrating went on well in to the evening - firstly drying out in front of the fire at the Globe then slipping a few victory drinks down the throat.

Next games are in Dunedin on March 12 (Sharks) and March 20 (Cats).

See you there!

And don't forget the New Zealand Backpackers Festival - June 9 to 12, 2004
featuring the England v All Blacks Rugby International in Dunedin.
