A last minute try by Brendon 'Chainsaw' Laney sees Otago snatch a 1 point win over the city boys Auckland at Carisbrook, Dunedin.
This proved to be a very painful experience for the Aucklanders having seeminly rapped the game up with a late try themselves. The House of Pain strikes again! |
| Some great face-painting going on pre-match with one group of five spelling out Otago and a replica Speights label looked good too! The Cadbury's 'chocolate scramble' went down well with Crunchie bars flying around the Gardies - sorry to those I took out in my enthusiasm in flinging them out there! |
 |
45 backpackers joined the crowd at Carisbrook in fairly cool conditions as the southerly ripped in. It certainly did not deter from the enjoyment on the terraces as the tension mounted awaiting that Otago victory. A day game was a pleasant change from the night games and the group revelled in the atmosphere although some of the crowd support (Superman?!) had to be questioned.

Second timer, Brooke from Iowa USA, finally saw Otago win after the loss against Canterbury last week and her Otago scarf proved to be a valuable purchase after all. |
The team settled in to the Gardies after the game for post match analysis, a feed and a few Speights which were tasting a lot better than 7 days earlier.
